Higher voltage means lower amperage, which allows for smaller, lighter, and less expensive wiring. For example, a 1,200-watt windlass in a 12-volt system draws 100 amps, requiring thick and heavy 2\/0 AWG wire. In a 48-volt system, the same windlass only draws 25 amps, allowing for much thinner 10 AWG wire. This translates to significant savings in both cost and weight across the entire electrical system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
